Starfield Shattered Space is 4x the size of Nuka-World, according to the Microsoft store
Shattered Space’s download size appears to be larger than almost any other Bethesda DLC package according to the latest Microsoft listing.
According to the Microsoft store page, the Starfield Shattered Space download size is approximately 14.88GB of HD space. If this is true, then Shattered Space is without a doubt the largest DLC Bethesda have ever released, beating both Fallout 4’s Nuka-World and Far Harbor by a considerable margin.
Previously, the Microsoft store page listed the game’s actual size at just 10.1MB on Xbox, and 17.01MB on PC. This has since been revised to reflect what will likely be the final size of the DLC.
Comparing Microsoft’s listing of the 14.88GB Shattered Space download (check the “More” tab), we need only look at Bethesda’s track record (not including major updates for Fallout 76).
Fallout 4’s highly praised Far Harbor only required 2.69GB of space, while Nuka-World needed 3.66GB. Assuming that Microsoft’s listing of the upcoming DLC is accurate, that would make Shattered Space four times the size of Nuka-World.
Of course, it’s unclear if this increase in size means that the Starfield Dazra map and its surroundings is four times the size of Nuka-World, or if it will have a considerably higher number of quests, locations, NPCs, items etc. From what we’ve seen of the Starfield trailer, Va’ruun’kai – the DLC’s primary setting – is unlike anything we’ve seen in the Settled Systems. This means new assets will have been created, and could account for a fair chunk of the 14.88GB size demand of Shattered Space.
What we do know is that the Starfield Shattered Space achievement list hints that the Shattered Space main quest is only seven missions long. To put that into perspective, Nuka-World’s main campaign was six quests in length, with an additional 10 side quests scattered across the map.
How many side missions Shattered Space adds is a mystery, but one that will be solved relatively soon when the DLC launches on Monday, September 30, 2024 at around 11:00 EDT / 16:00 BST.
