Full Starfield Shattered Space questline revealed by achievement list

Whether accidental or otherwise, a lot of the upcoming Starfield Shattered Space content has been revealed by the full Steam achievements list.

Full Starfield Shattered Space questline revealed by achievement list

Bethesda have done a very good job of keeping a lid on what Starfield Shattered Space is due to deliver, yet what appears to be an accidental update of Starfield achievements on Steam may have just given the entire plotline of the upcoming DLC away. Not only that, but the full Shattered Space achievements list also reveals a new weapon, and a new enemy which we’re guessing are Terrormorph-level.

Naturally, spoilers ahead.

The full Starfield Shattered Space achievements list is only 12 achievements long. Of the 12 achievements, seven are quest-specific, potentially indicating that the main questline of Shattered Space is only seven missions long. It’s possible that some of the achievements are for side quests rather than the main story, but the overall naming of the quests more imply a single questline.

We’re already aware that Shattered Space takes place largely on Va’Ruun’Kai, the mysterious homeworld of House Va’ruun. From what we can see on the achievements list, the first mission “What Remains” will take us to a derelict spacestation seen during the Shattered Space trailer before we are more than likely transported to Va’Ruun’Kai in “The Promised, Broken.”

The other achievements hint at an overall storyline which, combined with comments from Tim Lamb at a recent Starfield interview, imply that we’ll be dealing with a fractured faction consisting of numerous branches of House Va’Ruun before encountering an otherworldly entity (quite possibly a Starborn rather than The Great Serpent).

Fortunately, the achievements don’t go into any further details, so the overall story and its nuances haven’t been spoiled.

The same can’t be said for the new weapon and its variants: Vortex Grenades. It’s unknown what exactly these grenades will do, but it’s very likely that the Vortex Horrors mentioned in the “Face Your Fears” achievements have something to do with them. At a guess, the Vortex Horrors drop a crafting material that allows you to create a Vortex Grenade, or the grenade summons a Vortex Horror for you to unleash on your foes.

All of that aside, the achievement that excites me the most is “The Great Unknown” which is awarded for discovering 50 locations on Va’Ruun’Kai. Why does such a simple achievement seem exciting? Because Bethesda have stated multiple times that they are designing this DLC in the same way that they designed previous games: one map, no procedural generation, hidden nooks and crannies to explore. In short, this achievement highlights that Shattered Space will be a return to form in a similar fashion to the much-loved Far Harbor or Nuka-World from Fallout 4.

Starfield Shattered Space is due to arrive on September 30, 2024 and will hopefully deliver an experience I think many were hoping for when Starfield initially launched in 2023.
