You won’t get far in Starfield if you don’t know your way around a digilock, which is where the Starfield Security skill comes in.

Arguably, no skill is more important than the Starfield Security skill. You begin the game able to use a digipick – Starfield’s version of the lockpick – on Novice-level locks, which will grant you access to low-level loot and story-required areas.
However, the best armor, weapons, secrets and shortcuts are hidden behind more advanced locks, requiring you to rank up your Security skill if you want access.
Starfield Security skill overview
The Starfield Security skill is a tier 1 skill in the Tech skill tree. It, as with all Starfield skills, has 4 ranks, beginning at rank 1 and ending at rank 4. In order to progress up the Security skill tree, you will need to complete various skill challenges related to the skill in question, and increase your Starfield level to earn skill points. Each rank requires a skill point to unlock.
This skill allows you to hack Advanced locks, with the ability to hack more advanced locks and bank more auto attempts. The final rank of this skill will allow you to expend a digipick to eliminate keys that are not required to solve the puzzle Lockpicking allows you to gain access sealed off areas, and with this skill you will be able to hack your way through more doors.
In-game Security skill description
While the standardized digital locking mechnanism is renowned for its security, any code can be broken with the proper training.
The Security skill has the following ranks and stats:

You can attempt to hack Advanced locks, and 2 auto attempts can be banked. Pick 5 locks. 2 
You can attempt to hack Expert locks, and 3 auto attempts can be banked. Rings now turn blue when the pick can be slotted. Pick 15 locks. 3 
You can attempt to hack Master-level locks, and 4 auto attempts can be banked. Pick 30 locks. 4 
Expend a digipick to eliminate keys that aren’t required to solve the puzzle. 5 auto attempts can be banked. You have mastered this skill.
How to unlock Security console command
If you want to add the Security Starfield skill to your character without increasing your Starfield level or expending a skill point, simply open the Starfield console command window with the apostrophe (‘) or tilde (~) key and enter the following command:
player.addperk 002CE2E2
By repeating the player.addperk 002CE2E2 command, you can bypass the Security rank-up challenge and unlock the next rank. Entering the above command four times will unlock the rank 4 Security skill.
To remove the Security skill, you can use the following command:
player.removeperk 002CE2E2
