The Commerce skill hints at the player’s ability to start businesses in the Settled Systems, but little is known about this gameplay mechanic as it was not demonstrated during the Starfield Direct showcase.
Starfield Commerce skill overview
The Starfield Commerce skill is a tier 1 skill in the Social skill tree. It, as with all Starfield skills, has 4 ranks, beginning at rank 1 and ending at rank 4. In order to progress up the Commerce skill tree, you will need to complete various skill challenges related to the skill in question, and increase your Starfield level to earn skill points. Each rank requires a skill point to unlock.
When buying items this skill decreases their value, when selling items their value is increased. Each rank in this skill will increase the amount their value is increased by. If you find yourself frequently buying and selling items this skill will be very useful in saving and making money during your playthrough.
In-game Commerce skill description
In the Settled Systems’ free market economy, almost anyone with the right skillset can open and run a successful business.
The Commerce skill has the following ranks and stats:

Buy for 5% less and sell for 10% more. Buy or sell 25 unique items. 2 
Buy for 10% less and sell for 15% more. Buy or sell 75 unique items. 3 
Buy for 15% less and sell for 20% more. Buy or sell 150 unique items. 4 
Buy for 20% less and sell for 25% more. You have mastered this skill.
How to unlock Commerce console command
If you want to add the Commerce Starfield skill to your character without increasing your Starfield level or expending a skill point, simply open the Starfield console command window with the apostrophe (‘) or tilde (~) key and enter the following command:
player.addperk 002C5A8E
By repeating the player.addperk 002C5A8E command, you can bypass the Commerce rank-up challenge and unlock the next rank. Entering the above command four times will unlock the rank 4 Commerce skill.
To remove the Commerce skill, you can use the following command:
player.removeperk 002C5A8E
