Starfield PS5 rumors mount as “future of Xbox” event set for next week
In good news for PlayStation fans, the head of Xbox just hinted at a possible Starfield PS5 launch, but some Xbox fans aren’t happy about it.
Phil Spencer, the head of Xbox, is potentially announcing a Starfield PS5 port next week, alongside a new vision of the future for Xbox. This came only a day after news broke that numerous Bethesda Games titles were being considered for a PlayStation release, despite being Xbox and PC exclusives until now.
Dataminers previously discovered that Hi-Fi Rush, an Xbox exclusive game, had received numerous colored T-shirts in its latest update. The message and specific color of these shirts were incredibly suggestive of a future Nintendo Switch and PlayStation release. Since then, numerous inside sources at Microsoft have suggested a shift in philosophy when it comes to keeping games exclusive to consoles. Among the games suspected to receive a future PS5 release were Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, Sea of Thieves, and Starfield.
While Microsoft have not confirmed these rumors, the head of Xbox, Phil Spencer, has hinted that these rumors are not unfounded.
On February 5, 2024, Spencer tweeted that Microsoft have “been planning a business update event for next week, where we look forward to sharing more details with you about our vision for the future of Xbox.”
If we take the timeframe literally, we could see a Starfield PS5 announcement as early as February 12, 2024. Of course, Spencer made no specific mention as to the event’s agenda, but the comments section on Twitter showed a common theory winning through: that Xbox is going multi-platform.
For PlayStation fans, this is great news, especially as the improbable Sony release for Starfield has now become all the more likely.
Unfortunately, Xbox fans don’t seem as keen on the idea of Starfield et al receiving a PlayStation release. Among the many commenters responding to Spencer’s announcement, users such as @SynthPotato were concerned that multi-platform access would devalue the Xbox. Other users such as @rcr_92 took an even harsher tone, stating that there would be no point to owning an Xbox anymore if all the games became accessible to the PS5. As they pointed out, gamers would do better to get a PlayStation and just wait for Xbox to port their games over.

Of course, there’s the possibility that these rumors are, well, merely rumors, and that Microsoft’s business update event next week will outline a very different future to what we have predicted.
