Starfield update finally adds DLSS support after two months of waiting
At long last, a Starfield update is bringing native Nvidia DLSS support and numerous other improvements in an upcoming Steam Beta patch.
Nvidia hardware owners will be happy to hear that Starfield is finally getting official DLSS support next week in an upcoming Steam Beta patch. The upcoming Starfield update also brings a number of other optimizations and improvements to the game, with Bethesda further promising that AMD FSR3 support is on the horizon.
When Starfield initially launched, many fans were disappointed to learn that the game would only do so with AMD FSR2 support. Bethesda made the controversial decision to exclusively optimize Starfield for AMD systems following their AMD partnership announcement, enraging fans at the time of the announcement.
For the past two months, Nvidia hardware owners have had to rely on a Starfield mod to provide DLSS support. This DLSS support mod reportedly improved performance and framerates for numerous Starfield fans significantly, making many wonder why Bethesda didn’t include DLSS support in time for the Starfield release date.
Fortunately, Bethesda appear to have reconsidered their position on DLSS support with their upcoming update. This upcoming patch, which you can opt into if you have Starfield on Steam, is slated to bring:
- Native Starfield “DLSS support with frame generation, display and HDR controls.”
- Additional “optimizations and improvements.”
The addition of DLSS support should bring huge performance and stability improvements to Starfield players using Nvidia graphics cards. However, it’s as yet unclear what specific “optimizations and improvements” are due to arrive in the next patch as Bethesda didn’t provide a full patch notes list in their tweet.
The upcoming patch will launch the week beginning November 6, 2023, and will be rolled out more widely to all PC and Xbox players at a later date.
Bethesda teased in a separate tweet that “We’ll also have AMD FSR3 support in a future update,” which is sure to please AMD players who have more advanced graphics cards.
Once a full list of patch notes has been released, you can find them over on our Starfield updates page.
