Starfield ship builder lets you pilot a giant cheese sandwich

Sandwich pirate and Starfield Producer Jamie Mallory sheds light on Starfield’s quests, lore, and her latest Starfield ship: “The Griller.”

Bethesda have released an internal interview with Starfield’s own Producer, Jamie Mallory – the infamous Starfield sandwich pirate from the June 2023 Starfield Direct showcase. Mallory has provided fresh insights into Starfield’s quest system, ship customization, and laid bare what she’s most excited about in Starfield, including her grilled cheese sandwich ship.

If you watched the June 2023 Starfield showcase, you may be familiar with Starfield’s Producer Jamie Mallory who infamously hoarded sandwiches aboard her custom ship: the HMS Platypus.

Not content with sparking fan’s imaginations by demonstrating how far players can go with Starfield’s deep ship customization system, Mallory has teased just how complex Starfield’s upcoming questlines will be.

“Lately, I’ve been diving deep into the quest lines of all the different factions, and I’ve been pleasantly surprised by the incredible variety in their storylines. It’s like unlocking a treasure trove of captivating narratives that many folks might not even realize exist. While some may rush through the main golden path storyline, those intrepid explorers who venture off the beaten path and delve into the faction quests are in for a real treat.”

Mallory also revealed that players will find “terminals” on various planets and at numerous locations as they explore the Settled Systems. Much like the terminals (computers) found in previous Bethesda titles like Fallout 4, Starfield’s terminals will provide localized lore for the locations they can be found in, and provide insights into Starfield’s narrative.

In addition to this, players may come across “The Mission Board” which provides players with exciting challenges and quests in between exploring Starfield’s 1000+ planets. Fans have worried that Starfield could be a largely empty world outside of its major cities and locations because of the nature of Starfield’s procedural generation. However, Mallory’s reveal of “The Mission Board” could demonstrate one of many solutions Bethesda has implemented to ensure players are always engaged, and never without something to accomplish. The Mission Board will likely serve as your one-stop shop for bounty-hunting missions and other ambient quests.

Among the many engaging gameplay elements in Starfield, it would be remiss of Starfield’s infamous “sandwich pirate” to not talk about ship building.

“Working on Shipbuilder was an absolute blast. Collaborating with the talented and imaginative team to create intricate, awe-inspiring, and well, silly spacecraft was entertaining and fulfilling.” Mallory continued, describing her favorite creation: “a colossal sandwich soaring through space, aptly named “The Griller.” The name itself strikes fear, but when you witness this mammoth sub-like creation gracefully landing in a cutscene or zipping across the cosmos, it’s pure comedic gold.”

Mallory’s excitement for Starfield is plain throughout her interview, and only serves to heighten our own hype as Starfield draws ever closer to its Starfield Early Access period in September 1, 2023.
