Starfield delays
Fans were disappointed when the original release date of November 2022 was missed, and they were faced with a Starfield delay.
Initially slated for release back in November 2022, Starfield delays have since pushed the game back to 2023. We now have a more official release date for September, so we’ve gathered all the latest information here, including if another delay is on the horizon.
We’ll know more about the Starfield release during the upcoming Starfield showcase, during which we hope to see more pre order options, and a collector’s edition.
Is there a Starfield delay?
There are no further delays for Starfield at the moment. Starfield is currently set to launch on September 6, 2023, following two major delays. With the Xbox marketing and PR teams arriving at Bethesda Studios ahead of the Xbox Games Showcase and Starfield Direct, and the successful Starfield showcase of June 2023, it seems unlikely that Starfield will be pushed back any further.
Considering pre orders and collector’s editions are now available for purchase, the chance of delay is further lessened.
Should a delay be announced, you can be sure we will be back to update this page.
When was Starfield first delayed?
During the Starfield gameplay trailer of June 2021, Bethesda announced that the game would launch November 11, 2022. However, in May 2022, the first Starfield delay was revealed. Redfall was delayed in the same announcement, with Bethesda saying: “We’ve made the decision to delay the launches of Redfall and Starfield to the first half of 2023. The teams at Arkane Austin (Redfall) and Bethesda Game Studios (Starfield) have incredible ambitions for their games, and we want to ensure that you receive the best, most polished versions of them.”
With a new release date set for early 2023, fans were hopeful to see it by May 2023. By March 2023, Bethesda released their official Starfield announcement alongside a new trailer, delaying Starfield’s launch until September 6, 2023.
What caused the Starfield delays?
Game studios commonly push back the release dates of games when additional development time is required. This can buy the developer more time to polish features and eliminate bugs.
Speaking about Starfield’s delay in a separate interview, Xbox boss Phil Spencer said, “In hindsight, when you look at a game like Starfield, it’s taken so long and so much investment in new IP from the team. The decision to give the team the time to build the game that they feel they should be building is just the right thing to do.”
Fortunately, it does not seem like there will be any more delays before the September release. This also gives you plenty of time to familiarize yourself with the Starfield map, locations, companions, and pick out which armor and weapons with which you want to customize your character.
