Fans faced numerous Starfield delays in the run-up to release, but one more wait could be a bit longer if the DLC has been delayed.
Starfield delays plagued Starfield’s release for several years, with the game meeting an eventual Starfield release date in September 2023. That said, the launch of Starfield was not without issue, with numerous Starfield reviews pointing out the number of Starfield bugs that, even to this day, have yet to be resolved by the truly impressive raft of Starfield updates.
With Bethesda focusing so much on updates, many have begun to wonder if the first Starfield DLC pack is facing its own delay ahead of its estimated release of March/April 2024.
Is there a Starfield delay?
There are no known delays for Starfield at the moment. The Starfield Shattered Space DLC is anticipated to launch towards the end of March 2024, in accordance with historical DLC release patterns. However, Bethesda has yet to announce any details for the expansion, or even provide a trailer. Instead, Bethesda have been releasing huge updates, which could mean development is currently focused more on fixing the base game than expanding it.
When was Starfield first delayed?
During the Starfield gameplay trailer of June 2021, Bethesda announced that the game would launch November 11, 2022. However, in May 2022, the first Starfield delay was revealed. Redfall – another game by Bethesda – was delayed in the same announcement, with Bethesda saying: “We’ve made the decision to delay the launches of Redfall and Starfield to the first half of 2023. The teams at Arkane Austin (Redfall) and Bethesda Game Studios (Starfield) have incredible ambitions for their games, and we want to ensure that you receive the best, most polished versions of them.”
With a new release date set for early 2023, fans were hopeful to see it by May 2023. By March 2023, Bethesda released their official Starfield announcement alongside a new trailer, delaying Starfield’s launch until September 6, 2023.
What caused the Starfield delays?
Game studios commonly push back the release dates of games when additional development time is required. This can buy the developer more time to polish features and eliminate bugs.
Speaking about Starfield’s delay in a separate interview, Xbox boss Phil Spencer said, “In hindsight, when you look at a game like Starfield, it’s taken so long and so much investment in new IP from the team. The decision to give the team the time to build the game that they feel they should be building is just the right thing to do.”
For now, whether the DLC has been delayed or not, you can fill the void by familiarizing yourself with the Starfield map, locations, companions, and pick out some armor and weapons with which you can prepare your character for the upcoming DLC.
