Barrett overview
Starfield’s Barrett is one of several Starfield NPCs you can encounter during your exploration of the Settled Systems. Barrett is affiliated with Constellation.
One of the first NPCs you’ll encounter will be Barrett, a member of the Constellation faction. He is a human explorer and scientist.
A charming addition to your team, Barrett is an all-rounder for a companion, having access to higher food recipes, boosting your damage against robots, and improving your ship’s weapons and designs.
How to romance Barrett
Barrett is a lovable Starfield companion, but you won’t be able to start romancing him until you complete the Back to Vectera main quest. Once you’ve rescued Barrett from the Crimson Fleet (though Barrett seemed to be handling himself perfectly well at the time), you can start building affinity with Barrett by taking him along with you on quests.
A really easy way to gain affinity with Barrett is to pursue the main questline, recover Artifacts, and gain Starfield powers. Crack a few jokes as you talk with NPCs, and you’ll soon win over Barrett’s heart. However, it is important to note that while Barrett can easily engage pirates in conversation, he does not endorse illegal or dishonest actions. Taking advantage of another person’s misfortune by asking for a reward or stealing their Starfield ship will lower you affinity with Barrett.
Generally, your best bet to romance Barrett is very similar to Sarah Morgan: be a good person.
Once your affinity is high enough, you will unlock [Flirt] dialog options which will eventually lead to the Breach of Contract mission. Complete the quest, and you will unlock the commitment romance options for Barrett. Should you select the commitment option, you will begin the quest: Commitment: Barrett which will allow you to marry him.
